(*My tutoring schedule is open for summer 2023, from June through at least September!) I offer tutoring services for middle, high-school, and undergrad students in the areas of English, essay-writing, research and study skill development, and creative writing mentorship. I also offer guidance in the college application process, primarily assisting students in developing and writing a unique, memorable personal statement and supplement(s); in tandem, I can assist your student in untangling the overall anxieties and decisions involved with choosing colleges to apply to, and prep students for interviews. My primary specialty is writing; particularly, merging the creative, personal, & lyrical with the form and structure required by the personal statement and/or school essays. Please click here to schedule a free consultation (+ first hour session is also free!). I use SuperProf to schedule/arrange all appointments, so I’d prefer if you reach out at that link instead of emailing. I am also happy to discuss discounted prices for those who may need it, and offer lower rates particularly for queer BIPOC.

I can help your student:

-Learn how to develop, organize, and refine their written arguments & write spectacular essays for any humanities course

-Refine their close-reading & literary analysis skills (*which, in addition to school, is especially useful for the SAT II Literature test)

-Find meaningful and accessible ways to produce and publish creative work, as high school curricula often lack helpful resources for teen creative writers in general, as it is an overlooked art in schools. I can help students on any part of their journey—if they want to dip their feet into the world of creative writing for fun, or, if they’re seasoned writers looking to refine their work or submit to/create lit-mags.

-Write striking, original, and refined personal statements for college applications as well as supplements specific to different schools. I have extensive experience with this process, as I have undergone it once as a senior and again as a transfer student.

My general bio is available on the “about” page of this website, but I am also happy to email you a copy of my full resume if you’d like to know more about my qualifications and background—contact me anytime at searssofia@gmail.com.
